In short: Citizens of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan do not need a visa in advance to visit Malaysia as tourists; none of these countries is on the Immigration Department of Malaysia's list of nationalities that need a visa. Every traveller, children included, must still file the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within the three days before arrival. Anyone who does need a visa applies online on the official eVISA portal.

How long can you stay?
- The Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi says UAE citizens do not need a visa for any social visit of up to 90 days.
- The official sources we checked do not state a written length of stay for the other Arab nationalities in the table. Travel sites such as Wego (updated May 2026) say it is usually up to 90 days for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan, but the actual stay is what the immigration officer grants on arrival.
- A one- or two-week holiday, like our 14-day Malaysia itinerary, is far shorter than this. If you are planning a long stay, ask the Immigration Department or the Malaysian embassy in your country first.
The MDAC digital arrival card: when and how to fill it in
The MDAC has been mandatory for most foreign visitors since the start of 2024 and is filed online within the three days before you arrive in Malaysia, according to the Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi and Vialto Partners' summary of the Immigration Department announcement. It is free, and it is not a visa and does not replace one. Only a few groups are exempt, such as Singapore citizens, diplomatic passport holders and Malaysian permanent residents.
- Open the official site yourself: imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main. Avoid ad links and any site that asks for a fee.
- Passport details: your name exactly as in your passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth, email and phone number.
- Trip details: arrival date, mode of travel and flight number, where you board, and your expected departure date.
- Where you are staying: the hotel name and city, or your full address in Malaysia.
- Health questions: recent travel and your current health.
- Save the confirmation: you receive a PIN by email, which you use under Check Registration to get your confirmation. Save it on your phone and print a backup.
- One card per person: every traveller needs their own card, babies and children included, according to Trip.com's guide (January 2026). Have the whole family's passports ready before you start.
- Cash: the official MDAC site reminds travellers that cash worth more than USD 10,000 must be declared to customs.
Airport autogates: who can use them?
- Since 1 June 2024 the autogates have been open to passport holders from 63 countries and regions, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan, according to the Immigration Department announcement reported by Human Resources Online (28 May 2024). Egypt is not on the list, so Egyptian travellers use the regular immigration counter.
- When the service launched, the Immigration Department explained that eligible visitors cannot use the gates on their first entry: they file the MDAC and have their passport verified once at a counter, then use the gates for departures and later visits, according to Vialto Partners.
- Check your eligibility with the Check Egate Eligibility Status option on the official MDAC site.
- With young children you may be sent to a counter, so don't count on the gates if your onward connection is tight.
Who needs a visa? The eVISA system
- The nationalities that need a visa are listed on the Immigration Department of Malaysia's visa requirement by country page. If yours is listed, apply on the official eVISA portal, malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my.
- Living in the Gulf does not exempt you from a visa. A UAE or Saudi resident whose passport needs a visa applies like anyone else; for visit visas the Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi asks for a photo, the passport, the Emirates ID, a return ticket, a hotel booking and three months of bank statements.
- The embassy says fees vary by nationality and that it processes applications in about 3 working days. The Immigration Department's visa fee table sets RM 20 for nationalities not listed in it. Check the final amount on the portal before you pay.
- For Indian passport holders living in the Gulf: the Immigration Department says the visa exemption for Indian citizens runs until 31 December 2026.
- Apply at least two weeks before you travel, and don't book non-refundable tickets until you are approved.
What to carry on arrival
According to the Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai, visitors usually need:
- A passport valid for more than six months from the date of entry.
- A valid visa, if your nationality needs one.
- Proof that you can cover your stay.
- A return or onward ticket, and your hotel address.
- Your MDAC confirmation, on your phone or printed.
