Halal food
- Halal food is almost everywhere in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi; look for the official Malaysian halal logo (JAKIM).
- Take care at Chinese restaurants and some seafood places, and ask if you don't see the halal logo.
- Langkawi has many halal seafood restaurants along Cenang beach, and Kuala Lumpur has Arab restaurants in Bukit Bintang.
Practical tips
- Ride the cable car early in the morning; clouds often cover the top in the afternoon.
- A rental car or Grab in Langkawi is easier than taxis; the island is small and the roads are quiet.
- Langkawi is a duty-free island, so chocolate and perfume are often cheaper there.
- Langkawi's rainy season starts in September and can run into early December, so avoid it for island trips.
Entry and visas
- MDAC arrival card: travellers fill it in for free on the official site within 3 days before arrival; it is not a visa.
- Visa: UAE citizens don't need a visa for visits of up to 90 days, according to the Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi. Other nationalities should check their entry rules with the Immigration Department of Malaysia before booking.
