Are you one of them? About 117,000 passengers on flights covered by Oman's regulation between September 2025 and August 2026 were entitled to compensation, and most never claimed it, according to a study by the claims company AirHelp reported by Muscat Daily on 19 October 2026. You usually have two years to claim, so a disrupted flight from last year may still be worth money.

This is general information, not legal advice. The result is an estimate based on your answers; the final decision rests with the airline and the Oman Civil Aviation Authority.

Many people don't know they are owed anything. Send the calculator to your family or work WhatsApp group: someone there may be one of the 117,000 passengers who never claimed.
How we calculate your compensation
The calculator follows the passenger rights protection regulation applied by Oman's Civil Aviation Authority:
- Flights covered: every flight departing from an Omani airport, whatever the airline, and flights into Oman on an Omani airline such as Oman Air or SalamAir, unless you were compensated under the law of the departure country.
- When it is due: the flight departed more than 6 hours late, or it was cancelled and you were told less than 14 days before departure.
- Exceptions: extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather, security risks or an airport closure. Technical faults and crew shortages are usually not extraordinary.
- Replacement flights: if one got you there less than 2 hours after your original arrival time, compensation is usually not due; within 3 to 5 hours depending on distance, it may be halved.
- Deadline: usually two years from the flight date.
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | OMR 108 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | OMR 173 |
| Over 3,500 km | OMR 260 |
We measure the straight-line (great-circle) distance between the two airports, as airlines do. For example, Muscat to Dubai is in the first band, Muscat to Cairo or Mumbai in the second, and Muscat to London or Bangkok in the top band.
Your right to care while you wait
Even if no cash compensation is due, the airline must look after you during a delay: refreshments after 2 hours, a meal after 3 hours, and a hotel room with transport after 6 hours if an overnight stay is needed. If it didn't provide them, keep the receipts and claim the cost back. Care is still owed in extraordinary circumstances, and can include a hotel for up to 3 nights.
How to claim yourself
- Keep the evidence: boarding pass, booking, photos of the departure board, and food and hotel receipts.
- Ask for the reason for the delay or cancellation in writing.
- Claim directly from the airline through its website or by email, quoting the flight number, date, amount and Oman's passenger rights regulation.
- Escalate to the Oman Civil Aviation Authority if the airline refuses or doesn't reply.

Which flights does Oman's passenger rights regulation cover?
Every flight departing from an Omani airport, whatever the airline, and flights into Oman on an Omani airline such as Oman Air or SalamAir, unless you were compensated under the law of the departure country. Domestic flights have their own compensation rules.
