Before you choose: which area suits you?
- Patong: the liveliest, with malls, Arab restaurants and night markets, but crowded and loud at night.
- Kata and Karon: beautiful beaches and a calmer family feel, with enough restaurants. The most balanced choice for families.
- Kamala and Surin: upscale calm and lovely sunsets, ideal for honeymoons and couples.
- Bang Tao and Laguna: big resorts with gardens and wide pools, excellent for families and anyone who wants to stay in the resort.
- Mai Khao and Nai Thon: the north of the island near the airport, with nature, total calm and long, almost empty beaches.

Tips before booking in Phuket
- From May to October the sea is rough on the west-coast beaches, so choose a hotel with a good pool and don't rely on swimming in the sea.
- If halal food matters to you, Patong, Kata and Karon have the most halal restaurants nearby. See the halal food in Thailand guide.
- Moving between areas takes time on the hilly roads, so don't choose a hotel in the north if all your plans are in Patong.
We chose these hotels for their location, long-standing reputation and fit for families and couples, not by commission. Prices change daily with the season, so open a hotel to see the price for your dates.
